Fun stuff

On Thursday night we had a basketball game. I got to start for the first time this year! It made me happy, even if it was against a team that wasn't very good and he was mixing up the starting line-up a little bit. Well, I responded by scoring a whopping 2 points and hurting my ankle. haha It's doing good now, just a little purple and swollen. I played some raquetball and basketball today with my roommates and my ankle was pretty good so that's good.

Last night I went bowling with my roommate Matt and 3 girls I didn't know. Let's just say.. awkward. But it was pretty fun too. Well, that's all the news in my life. Have a great day, everybody.

Why did I take Christmas break for granted??

Ya, so classes are in full swing--without me it seems...ahhhh!!!!! I hate this 'you can never catch up' feeling at all points of my life! I have a few tests next week and tons of homework! Ahh college life! So it's been a couple of weekends ago, but our floor went bowling and the roommates got to choose a 'surprise' date for the other roommate...:) but you know by the end of the week, everyone practically knew who they were going with. It was a lot of fun--we did boys against girls on our lane. The girls stomped the guys the first game and the guys came back the second time around. I taught them a few of my pro-bowler moves, and they ended up doing better than me--go figure! :) Here's a picture of the amazing team of girls: me, Beth (aka super muscle woman--really), and my roommate--Sarah! :) awwww... Then this is a picture of all of us with our dates----ya ya ya :) Well I hope you all are enjoying the education experience and studying harder than last semester--ya right! :) Take care guys!

Shoes in the Shower

You've never done this before. You can't even come up with some neat comparison to a past experience to make you feel less awkward. It doesn't help that everyone else is doing it, since it's because of them that you have to do it in the first place. suddenly you have to accept this totally backward behavior as if it were logical, from now on, no end in sight.

In college you wear your shoes in the shower. you are halfway across the country, living by yourself for probably the first time. your childhood seems like its over. you are surrounded by people you don't know from places you've never been, who probably all have athletes foot. your dorm room is supposed to be the same on you saw on your college tour but you know its smaller, colder, and uglier than the one you saw when your mom was with you. you walk in and are standing in front of a girl you've never met, who you will have to live with all year. she is dressed differently from you and is from a state you've never visited. you probably have nothing in common. no amount of protective footwear is too drastic under these circumstances.

the first few days are like a dream. the shower continues to be the testing ground for your ability to adapt to these conditions. you are sure that everyone but you has figured out how to shave their legs in these small cubicles. you glance wistfully at the people in the hall wondering who could possibly fill in for the best friend you left at home, in whose bathroom you could always go barefoot.

you cry yourself to sleep a couple times and find yourself counting the days till Thanksgiving. what were you thinking? the state college thirty minutes away would have been just fine, probably much safe.. (not) you call home and tell your parents how homesick you are. sure you went to that party saturday night, which was ok, but surely they understand that that's nothing compared to your misery. your parents say "give it a chance" so often that you become convinced that they are putting the phone down next to the family parrot and walking away.

but after a while, the Shoeless Night happens. it come to everybody sooner or later. perhaps for you it is a midnight McDonald 's run with some girls on your floor and a post Mcgnugget conversatoin way into the night. YOur fear of various foot diseases begins to fade somewhat. you might actually like some of the girl (guys).

you might still cry yourself to sleep that night, but something's changed. for a few hours you got to remove the mythical shoes from the feet of your sould. because the important thing about the Night is that it is followed by Other Nights. THe night of party hopping is preceded by a two hour primping session with the same girls before piling tooooooo many of guys and girls into one car. the night of stealing other hall's furniture together allows you to let them see you in the morning after an "i'm too tired to wash my face" night.

eventually when you need to cry or get mad ( because you still might for a while) you find yourself walking down the hall to someone else's room instead of getting on the phone to your parents. when you do call them, all you can talk about is that girl down the hall who understands everything you say and listens well. your parents are thrilled and begin teaching the parrot to say. "that's great honey"

one night while standing at a party you turn to your friend and say, "are you ready to go home?" then you realize you are referrring to your dorm, that place that seemed so cold and ugly the first week ( in my case HOT) well they much have turned the ac or the heat on, repainted, or something. You still wear your shoes in the shower, but you and your friends knows its just because of those people on the next floor.

You can't be too careful!

Pretty Good Weekend/Beginning of Week

Well, let's see. I haven't written on here for a while. Basketball has been going pretty good, except it's a little frustrating, but I'm still having fun with it. Classes are good. I don't have any today so that's pretty amazing. :) We lost our bball game last night by 5. It was especially annoying because we played that team already and we lost by 3 the first time.

This past weekend was good. I basically just sat around, watched tv, ate food, and did nothing. On Saturday evening, two girls from my sister hall made supper for me and one other guy. They said we were the nicest two guys from our hall, so that's why they did it. It was nice of them, and awesome to get some food that we didn't have to make. Then on Sunday night one of my other friends that's a girl made supper for me. So, I got two free meals cooked for me this weekend. :) What can I say? I guess I'm just super cool since they made food for me.

Other than that, I don't have any news for ya. Have a wonderful day and enjoy your classes!

These are the girls that made me food.

Cos writes (vol. 4): Styrofoam Sunday Supper

I really enjoy Sunday dinners. No, not for the food, though actually tonight's was more edible than usual. Sunday dinners are great because they've become a tradition, something not unlike (which is a fancy way of saying "like") donning a yarmulka at a bar mitzvah.
Josh (my roomate), Sarah, Rachel, Isaac, and I met one random Sunday night for dinner, and had an absolute blast! We had to have lost 30 pounds each for all the laughing we did. We also had some really good serious talk. So it was the perfect well-rounded group conversation.
Then the next week we met again, and it was just a great! As time has gone on, more people have been added to our group, so that each Sunday night we're bigger than we've ever been, which goes for tonight as well. Sure, we have more separated conversations now, but the overall spirit of warmth, fun, and friendship rests above us like the Goodyear blimp at the SuperBowl.
After waiting all Christmas break for us to get back together, we finally watched "Lord of the Bean," the new VeggieTales flick. My invisible hat's off to those gents for what they do and how well they do it.

Tonight we took a bunch of styrofoam cups and did the whole turn it inside out thing. After breaking a few when we got to the outer lip, we just decided our goal would be do everything BUT that lip. Ya see, lower your expectations and success is within reach!
So now I'm back "home," being my dorm room, being heavily tempted to watch the "Paycheck" DVD I just borrowed from Rachel's roomate, Amanda, before reading my honors assignment and writing a review on it. If at gunpoint I was forced to give a level of temptation on a 1-10 scale, I'd probably have to say 9.239487 or maybe one more millionth more even. Thankfully, I'm not staring down a gun barrel (just down the barrel of a dumb reading assignment!).
Okay, okay, I'll stop complaining and go do the evil deed already. Then I can reward myself with the weekend flick (yet another tradition). Perhaps I might even have enough time afterward to invert some styrofoam.

Groaner smorgasboard...coming right up!!

Life is a funny thing sometimes...

It's funny forinstance that I am going nuts already and I've only had three days of school.
It's funny that all I really wanted to hear tonight as I felt myself slip into insanity was some realy bad jokes
It's funny that I googled "bad jokes" and picked the best of the worst for you
It's funny that I found multiple repeats...guess the bad joke market isn't too good
It's funny that these aren't really funny
It's funny that you'll laugh anyway...

~ What do you call a boomerang that doesn't work??
...a stick!!

~What do you call a cow with no legs?
...ground beef!!

~What do you call a dog with no legs??
...it doesn't matter, he won't come when you call anyway...

~Why do gorillas have big nostrils??
...because they have big fingers

~What do you call a deer in the woods with no eyes??
...no Ideer...

~What do you call a deer in the woods with no eyes and no legs??
...still no Ideer!!

~What to you call a 1300 pound elephant?
...anything he wants...

And my personal favorite...

~How is a bad joke like a bad pencil??
...it has no point...

Thanks for "humoring" me...hehe...have a good weekend!!

climbed up the water spout...

rain rain go away.. come again another day...:) mary i'm happy your taking a class on spiders... i already don't like the fact that we eat 8 in our life time.. so good luck with that! LOL

The itzy, bitzy spider...

Well, it is Friday and I am very happy. That's sad because I have only been back to school a grand total of three days.
Ok, so I wish I had something extremely interesting to say. Why is it that whenever I actually sit down to type I can't think of one thing to say?
However, I am taking a really cool class called "Biology of Spiders," and I think that it will really be a lot of fun (thus my title). We have to have a collection of at least 25 different spiders at the end of the semester. My professor is very enthusiastic and loud, and I like her a lot, so that should be great!

Well, that is all for now!
I hope you guys all have a great weekend!

hurting

i figured that title would be appropriate as i sit in my chair in pain.. yea thats right.. my legs hurt really bad.. i've decided that i'm going to bike in the gym everyday.. my highest distance was 11 miles in 30 minutes... it was a really good feeling.... until i got off the bike and felt like a cowboy who just had the worst ride of her life on a horse.. it was pretty funny.. my friends laughed at me :)

i'm extremely busy with 17 credits and working at least 20 hours a week on top of everything else i agreed to do before i started working.. but i love it :)

Selah is coming in concert in a couple weeks so everyone has been wanting those tickets.. again its extremely warm.. kinda starting to freak me out... lol

P>S this is a horrible picture of me.. but i thought it was a cute one of some of me and my friends this week chilling and eating.. and being stupid of course lol

my reason for jumping from one thing to another is my lack of sleep.. or the fact that i'm just really tired.. but isn't that the same thing.. hmmmm

did i mention i HATE HISTORY.. i hated it in highschool so why didn't anyone tell me it was never going to get anymore interesting in college.. its torture.. must i go on.. ok enough of the "drama"lol

i hope everyone had a good week :) and to keep breathign in and breathing out

random....lol bye!

p.s. this pix is of me this past week chilling with friends.. and i figured it was goofy and pictures always make this blog more intersting :) i look horible so just don't mind me.. it was at night .. haa haa see ya guys later~!

And so it begins...

Hey y'all...

So here I am, sitting in the business school yet again...it's the first day of school and somehow I feel like I'm back in junior high with the usual first day weirdness. I've just survived my first Calc class thanks to a hefty mug of coffee. My teacher repeats everything three times but he also talks very fast so it will probably even out. No homework today...yay for easing in slowly.

20 credit hours seems a little daunting at this point, but I'm gonna make it I hope. I'm looking forward to getting back into choir and greatly enjoying the fact that today I actually recognized a few people in my class. It's nice to get a fresh start and see some new faces.

Last night, right before prayer at 10 I realized that I had class today and that I didn't have any notebooks...so my buddies and I made a Walmart run at 11...I bought the ONE 3 subject notebook that they still had in stock...at least I know that I'm not alone.

I've still got Bio, Chem, and Seminar to go to, so I'd better get crackin...hope you are all doing well...hey, let's stop it with the surgeries though for a little while...Mar, I hope you get to feeling better soon! Blessings

Cos writes (Vol. 3): Almost, though not quite lying

This picture is about what I looked like this weekend. Well, almost. Erase the potato chips, and beer cans, and the remote, and the couch, and me being a cat. I hate most cats, but that's beside the point. All I meant to say is that I've been chilling a lot lately, and it's been GREAT, because I can finally sit on my butt without any pain!

My friend, Kile, from Cinci came up, and we went to Skyline (ever heard of it? Wonderful chili and cheese products. They're secret chili ingredients are actually ginger and chocolate. Go figure.) and had a good time simply hanging out.

After I got my homework for the weekend done, I managed to watch 4 movies with various groups of people, and it's only Sunday today. Shawshank, Mystery Science Theater 3000, Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind, and Office Space.

Shawshank's a classic. Rough around the edges, but a wonderful story. It's got redemption all over it, even in the title! MST3K and Office Space are NOT worth your time. You can thank me for wasting my time so you won't waste yours. Ha! Eternal Sunshine....well, all I've got to say is WATCH IT TO THE END, 'cause it WILL pay off, even though it doesn't seem to be doing that. It's also very rough linguistically, but for the redemptive value I deem it worthy of a couple watches probably. I'm told the 2nd watch is where things really make more sense. Be warned that both Shawshank and Eternal Sunshine aren't your family movie night good, but your with friends or just your cool parents flick. So this picture is almost, though not quite really what I looked like this weekend.

By the way, I wasn't almost, though not quite lying about Skyline's secret ingredients. My "yes" is "yes" for that one.

holding on in Ohio!

ya well i see that the weather got my memo.. i was wondering when it was going to catch on..aka its now freezing cold.. a lil dusting of snow on the ground.. here in OH!

i'm at my aunts house and its fun.. i learned some new games.. Rage... like 10 9 8.. which is a card game involving a trump for those of you who have problems with trump gaming cards lol and then Uno Rummy.. which that was fun too but it made my brain hurt.. doesn't take much though :)

i'm just chilling here till tomorrow, then i'll go back to my friends' gmas house and then leave monday.. only to return to school and have class and work tuesday :)
but hey.. we're in college :) yipee!!!

stay warm everyone and keep blogging... i love reading these after a long day... :)

by the way-- i do :) those a lot.. so get used to it :)

Chapel and Bball

Yesterday in Chapel we had a worship chapel. It was awesome because it reminded me a lot of Decatur Foursquare. It was the same style and they sang a lot of the same songs. I loved it. I needed it too, because I miss having the worship like that.

Today I have a basketball game. It starts in about an hour and a half. My aunt, uncle, cousin, pastor from Barron, and his wife are all coming. It's going to be pretty sweet. Then, the girls play and then the varsity guys. It's Hoops Hysteria, so they'll have a contest that if someone can make a layup, free throw, 3 pointer, and half court they get free tuition for a year. I guess last year someone won, so that's cool. Hopefully someone does again this year. Well, that's all for now.

Oh yeah, the uncle and pastor from Barron came down to Illinios to watch one of my games against LSA last year. You might have met them.

and morgan.. i agree on the books.. i spent 430 dollars on books... made me wanna cry :) lol

ha aha
well i love ya guys have fun and i shall be seeing you so soon!!! :)

howdy doody

wow...there's a word I've never seen in writing...doody...Tee Hee!

Well, hey everyone...just checking in to say hi. I guess most of you are back in school now...way to be awesome. I for one don't start classes until a week from this morning. To be honest, I'd rather be on your schedule...this week is kind of annoying cause all of you left and none of my friends from MU are back yet. Casey is in school of course and TJ and my dad are on tour with Dad's choir in Florida. After all the parties and get togethers we've had in the last few weeks this house seems amazingly...quiet. Ah well...I'll survive.

Actually, my complete lack of social interaction has allowed me to work a bit this week, trying to get enough $$ to eat off of this semester. I've also been cleaning up my room, organizing things, putting pictures of my high school years into books and clearing the way for college memories yet to be made. I ordered text books and decided that we should strike because the prices are so high. grrrr....maybe I should go into textbook distribution...that's where to make your first million methinks.

Well, mom and I are headed to grab some lunch in a few minutes, so I guess this is where I leave you. Hope you all enjoy your first few weeks back at college...re-unite with those buddies and have a great semester! Love to you all,

Me

Back Into the Swing of Things

Well, I'm back in classes. I don't really like having homework again, but seeing everyone is cool. Basketball practice has been good the last two days, and classes haven't been too bad, although they are long. I have a basketball game tomorrow, so that should be fun. It's against the only team that our JV has beat, so we better win. All I'm doing tonight is homework and hanging out. It shall be fun.

Dang, ants must have good memory

"Here we go" I thought to myself, as we came within view of the Cedarville water tower. "Back to this college thing again, I guess." We made more stops than usual, basically so I could get off of my rear for a while. It wasn't so bad. I mean, I'm sure if I was a cussing man, I'd have been cussing every so often, but hey, I made it, so I won't complain.

Of course, now I'm again seated, this time at my laptap, listening to good old Chicago ("Sitting cross-legged on the floor!!!! 25 or 6 to 4!!!!!) and taking a quick break from unpacking, ugh. What a great word. Ugh. Thanks, D, for reintroducing that to this blog. Unpacking from break is such a strange feeling, methinks. It's like I'm an ant after a lawn mower just took out my anthill. All this stuff everywhere, totally not in the right place, and I must rely on my horrible memory to get everything how it was when I left. Well, maybe it's just time for a room rearrangement. Ugh.

I'd appreciate your prayers for my backside. It's improving, but really won't be healed completely for about 7 more weeks. God is so good to me. The medical people here have been informed of my situation, and are gonna help me out whenever I need. Phew. I didn't wanna be the one explaining things to everyone. Well, maybe I said that too fast. I guess I'll be explaining to enough people as it is. Makes me wish I would just wear a sandwhich board on my chest that had all the info on it or something. Haha. No.......Ugh.

Well, here we go. Back to this college thing again, I guess.
